It was no use. No matter what he did, the beams never really seemed to hit one of the witches, and when they did the witch just disappeared and reappeared somewhere else. It was an illusion that was very difficult to try and break through, if not just impossible for someone who was focused on more things rather than just trying to plain on fight her.

So after the witch made sure he wasted energy and time on trying to hurt the illusions, she started to prepare her own attack, much bigger than just trying to hit him with her weapon. This thing here in her barrier was a pest, annoying, trying to hit her like that, and she just.. had to take it out in one go. There was no more time to be wasted with just fooling around or whatever.

So the witch raised her staff which promptly changed into a spear - much like Kyouko's, only much larger and practically bursting with magical energy. And that was the moment she drove through the illusion on the horse as quickly as she could, breaking the illusion that way but by that time she was probably already too close for him to react. She swung the spear, hitting the Digimon and making him fly backwards, and even then she chased him on the horse to hit him a few more times, not stopping the assault even for a moment.
